American Time, helping the world to stay on time.

Jeff Baumgartner, CEO of American Time started his company in 1980 with the goal of entering the market for clock repair and replacement. He had observed that clocks and systems were being sold to schools but that the companies that sold these clocks and systems did not typically offer service, repairs or replacements for their products.

Baumgartner purchased Fuhr Time and Signal a company based in Wisconsin, and using their mailing list began sending out catalogs stating that he would provide the services needed.

He named his business American Time and Signal, which is still the companies official name.

He soon discovered he had a garage full of clocks that needed repairs. He hired people to assist with this and found that he needed to move into a bigger building.

Today this company has expanded into a 40,000 square foot building and has systems placed as far away as Australia.

I spoke with the president of American Time, George Wilkes. He explained to me that the primary source of their business at this time is with school districts. Systems are placed into

the schools and continually updated and kept in working order. American Time has created a system named Incloud, an online portal that helps you easily schedule and manage American Time network clocks and devices (Wi-Fi and PoE), and the EverAlert Communication System. The EverAlert is a 21.5” display that serves as a clock in the classroom but also provides digital messaging and emergency messaging capability. While schools use it to communicate daily information to students, it is also used to communicate critical information in the case of emergency, such as a lockdown or medical emergency. The displays are equipped with speakers so that the messages can be communicated both audibly and visually. This can be a lifesaver.

Today American Time hires 65 employees on site in Dassel, with four employees off site; one each in California, New Jersey, Arizona, and Colorado. Additionally American Time hires approximately 12 employees from Pro Works, an assisted work program.
