Kurt Jacques, owner of He Shed She Shed, began his career in picking at 15. Living in Mayer at that time and having not much else to do (his words) he began visiting Fred Radde and Sons at the Radde Auction House in Mayer on Highway 7.

He developed an eye for bargains and waited until the end of the auction when he could purchase unsold items cheaply.

He continued collecting, eventually purchasing property in Hutchinson where he operated a long running garage sale in his multi-bayed garage.

Recently, he began purchasing property in Dassel. Jacques purchased the property that Simply Quimby now leases from him and opened a shop in the back shed, named appropriately, The Back Shed. There is for sale an eclectic assortment of items, chandeliers, garden statues, photos, lamps.

Jacques also purchased a property on Atlantic Avenue that was once the town bakery. There he recently opened He Shed She Shed, a thrift to antique store. And boy does he have stuff! He has furniture, wonderful high-end collectables, and lower cost items.

Jacques said all names for his businesses were created by his sister, who has an artistic flair with words.

Jacques’s goal is selling his items and clearing his space. Unfortunately, or fortunately for his customers, Jacques does not stop buying goods. He is always busy rearranging items, sorting items, clearing spaces, filling spaces, and doing all things spaces.

Jacques attends auctions, particularly the auctions run by Lundeen Auction and Appraisals, where he helps part-time, and purchases part-time. He visits auctions, estate sales, yard sales, always on the lookout for just the right pick.

With a partner Jacques sells on eBay and through Facebook Marketplace Community. He can sell high- and low-end products this way.

Jacques also runs an entertainment bouncy house business, Kids Jump LLC. His bouncy house has been a mainstay of recent Dassel Business Group events in downtown Dassel.

Jacques’s goal is to donate much of the money made from his sales to local charitable organizations.

For Jacques, collecting items to sell is like collecting history, and he does it well.
